Corker Binning is pleased to announce that our client AB has been discharged from extradition proceedings brought by a country in Latin America. This was the first ever extradition request made by this country to the UK.
AB sought asylum shortly after arriving in the UK and the asylum proceedings ran in parallel to the extradition proceedings over the course of five years. Corker Binning gathered voluminous witness and expert evidence for use in both sets of proceedings.
Earlier this year the Home Office conceded AB’s appeal before the First-Tier Immigration Tribunal and granted asylum to AB and their dependent family members. The Home Office subsequently accepted that AB should be discharged from the extradition proceedings – those proceedings being, in themselves, an essential element of AB’s well-founded fear of persecution. In light of the grant of asylum we cannot name AB or provide any further details.
The case was led by Corker Binning partner, Andrew Smith.
