Partner Danielle Reece-Greenhalgh has been quoted in The Guardian about the rise of “nudification” apps that create deepfake sexual images and their impact on children.
According to Danielle, the explosion in accessible deepfake technology is already posing “a huge problem” for law enforcement trying to identify and protect victims of abuse.
She notes that app bans are “likely to stir up debate around internet freedoms” and could have a “disproportionate impact on young men” who play around with AI software, unaware of the consequences.
While the criminal justice system has tried to take a commonsense view by avoiding criminalising young people for crimes that resemble normal teenage behaviour, Danielle says, arrests can be traumatic experiences for children and have longer-term repercussions for work and travel.
