Partner, David Corker has been quoted in The Telegraph and Law360 disusing the mounting pressure the SFO faces after judges overturned an oil executive’s bribery conviction last Friday, finding the anti-graft agency’s misconduct prevented a fair trial.
Corker said the misconduct points to cultural differences between the UK and US systems.
“Under US standards the meeting was probably not improper, but under UK standards it certainly was,” he says.
“She was appointed in the hope someone with outside experience and a fresh pair of eyes would improve the agency and move it away from its past failings.
“[Osofsky] was appointed SFO director because of her lack of experience of the UK criminal justice system.”
