An amendment in the law on 25 March 2022 has made it illegal for motorists to handle their mobile devices while driving a car or riding a motorcycle. The government has also implemented new fines and charges for individuals caught on their devices.
Jessica Maguire commented:
“From today [25 March 2022], a significant change in the law will now mean that individuals can now be fined for simply touching their phone whilst driving. This will mean that the prosecution is now no longer required to prove that when a person is using a device whilst driving that the device was performing an interactive communication function, closing previous legal loopholes around these types of offences. This will mean that touching a phone, even to deal with satellite navigation or music streaming applications whilst driving will now be an offence and an individual liable up to £1000 fine and 6 points on their licence.”
