A recent enforcement action by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), featured in Compliance Week, highlights the growing importance of Suspicious Transaction and Order Reports (STORs) in tackling insider dealing. The case, resulting in a £310,000 fine after a firm filed a STOR demonstrates how self-reporting supports effective enforcement while reinforcing market integrity. Claire Cross, partner at Corker Binning, described STORs as “a vital source of intelligence for the FCA,” noting that timely reporting not only assists regulators in spotting trends and targeting action, but also helps firms reduce regulatory risk, strengthen systems and controls, and prevent issues from escalating.
