Criminal Investigations and Prosecutions
Youth crime and vulnerable adults

Chambers 2026
We regularly advise young people (under the age of 18) and vulnerable adults who are under investigation or facing prosecution.
For a young or vulnerable person, and for their parents or guardians, involvement in the criminal justice system can be deeply distressing. Our lawyers offer calm, focused support throughout the process. We guide clients with sensitivity and are committed to securing the best possible outcome. You will not face this alone.
We are highly experienced in both pre-charge and post-charge engagement with the police and the Crown Prosecution Service, particularly in cases involving children, teenagers and individuals with mental health challenges. Where appropriate, we prepare detailed, evidence-based representations explaining why a prosecution is not in the public interest. We frequently propose alternative out-of-court outcomes. This may involve working with medical experts such as psychiatrists and psychologists.
We regularly represent young people accused of serious offences, including possession and sharing of indecent images (often through sexting or social media), rape and other sexual offences. These cases are rarely isolated. They often bring wider consequences, including disciplinary proceedings at school or university and contact with social services. We help clients manage all aspects of the situation, not just the criminal case.
We work closely with medical professionals to ensure that each client’s needs and vulnerabilities are recognised and addressed. Where necessary, we make sure that proceedings are adapted to support effective communication and minimise harm to our clients’ long-term wellbeing. We fight to ensure their voices are heard at every stage of the process.
Recent examples of our work include:
- Securing no further action for a 12-year-old accused of sexual assault.
- A 16-year-old under investigation for alleged rape at school. No further action was taken.
- Making pre-charge representations to the CPS on behalf of a vulnerable adult with complex needs, targeted in an online vigilante operation involving sexual communications with a child.
- A 13-year-old under investigation for rape.
- A student arrested for drug possession, assaulting an emergency worker and criminal damage. We obtained video evidence of a heavy-handed arrest and persuaded the CPS not to prosecute.
- A 15-year-old accused of sharing explicit images and malicious communications.
- A 17-year-old acquitted at trial of conspiracy to rob and perverting the course of justice.
- A sixth form student under investigation following historic sexual assault allegations made on social media.
- Making post-charge representations to the CPS not to pursue prosecution against a 15-year-old who had consensual sexual activity with his 14-year-old girlfriend.
